It is exciting to interact with people at an important juncture in their lives, and to be able to share topics that I&#8217;m enthusiastic about with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, I have offered courses on the following topics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introductory American Government<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State and Local Government<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Campaigns and Elections<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public Opinion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research Statistics<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My course syllabi <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/drive\/folders\/1II8BAKAqt7CUesnooxyS_oUIrC8Hzmfu?usp=sharing\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#4341e4\" class=\"has-inline-color\">can be viewed at this link<\/mark><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I am also happy to share materials with colleagues, especially those who are teaching a course for the first time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All my courses offer some form of immersive learning. In the introductory course, for example, students grapple with the tradeoffs involved with policymaking by playing <a href=\"https:\/\/fiscalship.org\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/fiscalship.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Fiscal Ship game<\/a>. My campaigns course features a week-long simulation, and in State and Local Government, students &#8220;adopt a state&#8221; and become our resident expert on its politics and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Admittedly, these activities take effort to prepare, and not every class session can be a winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, I feel that students can learn more by doing than by reading or listening. My favorite compliment to receive from students is &#8220;Wow, this topic was more interesting than I thought!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In my experience, teaching college has been a privilege.
